This conversation is based on the three chapters contained in the Small Group Leader’s Field Guide section of the Intentional Disciples of Jesus Discussion Guide and Prayer Journal book. For more information about that resource check here.
Our mission is to help equip you to lead a small group focused on fostering intentional discipleship in the model of Jesus's original disciples. The Intentional Disciples of Jesus small group model centers on four core aspects of the disciples' relationship with Jesus:
Worship: Giving honor and affection to Jesus through practices like singing, prayer, and contemplation.
Listening: Actively seeking Jesus's voice through Scripture and the Holy Spirit.
Learning: Growing in understanding of God, self, and life purpose through Jesus's teachings and example.
Ministry: Partnering with Jesus in serving and healing others as guided by the Spirit.
We show you how to guide your group through these activities, providing practical advice, exercises, and biblical rationale. You'll learn to:
Structure your meetings effectively around these four core elements, creating a rhythm of spiritual engagement.
Incorporate dynamic worship that moves beyond singing "about" God to a direct encounter with Jesus.
Train and activate your group members to recognize and use their spiritual gifts in ministry.
Facilitate various types of ministry, discerning those suitable for small group settings and those needing referral.
Navigate group dynamics effectively, understanding common stages and challenges like conflict.
Avoid common pitfalls that can hinder authentic, Spirit-empowered ministry.
By embracing these principles and practices, you'll be prepared to lead a thriving small group where members deepen their relationship with Jesus and experience His transforming power.
