Reading Jesus 2025
What would happen if you spent one year reading and rereading the four gospels as an intentional disciple of Jesus?
At the end of 2017, as I began writing what would eventually become the Intentional Disciples of Jesus book and its related materials, I felt prompted by the Lord to set the project aside. Instead, I was to spend the following year reading and rereading the four Gospels, focusing entirely on Jesus.
If you would like to spend 2025 Reading Jesus, here is the daily scripture reading plan that I created and followed in 2018 with my compliments.
At that time, I was 63 years old and had spent over three decades in pastoral ministry. Yet, this experience was transformative. Like many others, I had accumulated layers of religious experiences and theological ideas over the years. However, as I devoted that year to studying Jesus closely—listening to Him and seeking to understand what He might say to me—I found myself growing closer to Him and feeling more connected to those who first walked with Him than ever before.
As I immersed myself in the Gospels, they began to feel less like ancient texts on a page and more like a living revelation of the life and reality we’ve been invited to share with His first disciples. It was as though I was there with Him, and He was here with me.
If you would like an adventure this year, consider joining me in a deep immersion in the storyline of the gospel of the Kingdom, not as an academic exercise but as a determined effort to follow Jesus in step with those who first answered His call to come with Him.
